We’ve been tracked out now going on our third week. I’ve been teaching video at the Hello Storyteller Academy “Beyond a Photograph” workshop and it’s been so fullfilling and seeing all of my students learn video had me feeling guilty about not documenting my own kids enough. I also really wanted to remember this track out because it’s been a really fun one. Unlike the winter track outs Spring brings with it beautiful weather and the excitement of being outdoors again.
Girls Empowered Summer Camp serves girls, ages 9-12, through interactive themes designed to educate, inspire, create self-confidence and give tools for them to navigate and manage the emotional and mental challenges they face on a daily basis. They will create lasting relationships and sisterhood in this 3 day camp through FUN, CREATIVE and EFFECTIVE activities lead by Erin Cornick and Brittany Laxton and special guests that are empowering and uplifting.
Spring is finallllly here! This winter wasn’t that bad really but it doesn’t make the arrival of Spring any less exciting. The kids are also tracked out (if you’re reading this and you’re not familiar with NC schools this simply means they are on an extended 3 week break) which means I have more time with them to do the fun spring stuff like exploring.
I had a meeting with some other local business owners in the area and we were discussing our WHY, as in why we do what we do. Each had their own reason behind the long hours and the blood sweat and tears that it takes to run your own business. Most of us that go into business on our own have deeply personal reasons for doing so and most of us also realize pretty quickly into the journey that it’s going to take a lot of dedication and perseverance to make our dreams come true. So what drives me?
YOUR LIFE MATTERS. YOUR FAMILY LEGACY MATTERS. YOUR BABIES ARE ONLY BABIES FOR A SHORT TIME. TOMORROW ISN’T GUARANTEED.
I just recently had some newborn business cards made and while I was going through and choosing the photos to feature on the cards I was brought back to the raw emotion of hospital sessions. I think the emotion comes from a place deep inside of remembrance of how much life changed with each baby and how it does too for the women I have the privilege of photographing. The act of bringing a child into the world is emotionally and physically draining and the hours that follow at the hospital or birthing center are equally draining. I would describe it as a fog, time moves so slow and so fast at the same time. The nurses are constantly checking on you for what seems to be every 5 minutes. This can be relieving to a new mom or a bit aggrivating by baby #2. And then there’s the challenge of nursing which if you are like me…
It's hard to believe that Halloween is behind us and soon Thanksgiving and Christmas will be here. With kids, work and all the other social activities most of us have it's very easy for the season to all end up one big blurry forgotten memory. The holidays, although crazy busy are also some of the only times when we all get together. It's for this reason that I started offering Holiday Traditions sessions
